What does it cost to birth at Matrescence?

Your investment has three parts: a facility fee (billed directly to your private health insurer where eligible, with a self-funded option if you hold Medicare only), a care package you choose with your midwife, and your private midwife's own fees. Payment plans are available. On your tour you'll receive our pricing guide with every figure in writing, so you can take it home and decide in your own time.

Can I use my private health insurance or Medicare?

In many cases, yes. Where you hold eligible private health cover, the facility fee is billed directly to your insurer. Medicare rebates apply to eligible midwifery services. Bring your details on the tour and we'll talk you through exactly what applies to you.

What if something doesn't go to plan?

Safety is the foundation everything else stands on. Every woman is co-admitted under a credentialed doctor, with comprehensive medical reviews at 29 and 36 weeks. If additional care is ever needed, we have a clear, rapid transfer pathway with QAS to Gold Coast University Hospital, and where possible your midwife stays with you through the transition.

Is the centre right for every pregnancy?

No, and we're honest about that. As a Level 2 facility we care for low-risk pregnancies, and every booking begins with a clinical suitability assessment. Some pregnancies need a different level of care, and if that's you, we'll say so early and help you find the right path.

Can I have an epidural at the centre?

The centre is purpose-built to support natural, physiological birth, so we don't offer epidurals, inductions of labour or elective caesarean birth. We support labour with water immersion, movement, hypnobirthing and continuous one-to-one midwifery care. If your needs change during labour, the transfer pathway is always there.

Can my partner be there the whole time?

Absolutely, and we'd encourage it. The birth suites are designed with space for your partner, doula or support people, and partners are warmly welcome on the tour too. Many tell us the tour changed the conversation at home.

How far along should I be before I tour?

Any stage is welcome, including before you're pregnant. Families tour at every point from planning a pregnancy through to the third trimester. Earlier gives you more choice of midwife and more time with our pregnancy programs, but it is never too late to ask.

Where are you, and is there parking?

Ground floor, Proxima Building, 22 Frazer Street, Southport, on the Gold Coast. There is two-hour free street parking around the building and parking at the Woolworths car park one block away.
